Description
1870 Standard Silver Half in Copper
Judd-930, PR65 Red and Brown
1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-930, Pollock-1035,
R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. This William Barber design
features Liberty seated and facing left, surrounded by 13 stars.
She steadies a shield with her right hand, while her left hand
holds an olive branch. A Liberty pole is partly concealed behind
the shield. A scroll crossing the shield features a raised
inscription of LIBERTY. The date is centered below. The reverse has
a wreath of corn and cotton, with 50 CENTS inside and STANDARD
above. This muling of pattern Seated and Standard Silver dies led
to the absence of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Struck in copper with a
plain edge. Fully struck and prominently mirrored with bright red
surfaces, though glimmers of blue-green are noted at the margins.
Aqua freckles on the upper reverse rim identify the present
piece.Ex: December Signature (Heritage, 12/2013), lot 3945.
