Description
1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-9, BB-166, R.1 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. XF. Bowers Die State V. A monogamous die pair was used to strike BB-166 -- the sole use of both the obverse and reverse dies. Several obverse die cracks confirm the late state of the dies, while the reverse is the "Apostrophe" variety, with a die break adjacent to the second S in STATES. The obverse shows little sign of cleaning with blue, violet, and tan toning. The reverse exhibits harsh hairlines where it was brushed and cleaned across the upper eagle and among the field stars.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24X7, Variety PCGS# 40057, Base PCGS# 6878, Greysheet# 70504)
