Doubled Die Reverse
1935 5C Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS64 NGC. Bold die
doubling is evident on all reverse relief elements. This Guide
Book variety is seldom seen in the upper circulated grades, and
Mint State examples are genuinely rare at all levels. This
representative shows pale golden and lavender-gray patina, with
minimal abrasions and only a few faint flecks on each side. A touch
of strike softness is noted on the hair above the Indian's braid,
though the devices are otherwise well-defined. No significant
evidence of die erosion is present. Census: 3 in 64, 2 finer
(7/19).Ex: Houston Signature (Heritage, 12/2014), lot 3487.
