1864 $1 XF45 NGC. OC-1, R.2. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/c. A single set of dies produced the entire 30,700 circulation strikes, yet four die pairs were required to strike the 470 proofs for the year. The shows a high, level date while the reverse exhibits a few shield line extensions into the azure. Struck from a late state of the reverse die with clashing in the shield recesses and a faint die crack above ERI of AMERICA. Two-toned patina displays slate-gray fields with silver-gray high points on the raised elements. Tiny abrasions and slight wear define the Choice XF grade. A slight rim knock at 10 o'clock on the reverse is minor and shows no visible indentation. Census: 11 in 45, 49 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N991)
