William I the Conqueror (1066-1087) Penny ND (1070-1072) XF Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC, Lincoln mint, Outhgrim as moneyer, Canopy type, S-1252, N-843 (R). 18mm. 1.30gm. • +?LLEMVS REX •, crowned and diademed bust of William facing with canopy of two columns / +OVÐGRIM ON LINC, double quadrilateral with incurved sides, fleury at the angles, annulet in center. A lesser-encountered type from the middle of William's reign, lovely obsidian-plumb tone with considerable brightness to the surfaces, full legibility, and a palpable sense of age. Sold with old collector's envelope.
