Description
1857-O Two and a Half, MS60
Attractive Final Branch Mint Piece
1857-O $2 1/2 MS60 NGC. Winter-1. The final New Orleans
issue of quarter eagles produced a modest 34,000 pieces with many
entered into heavy circulation. Branch Mint collecting was not a
consideration at the time of issue, so Mint State examples are a
condition rarity with NGC showing only 53 finer than MS60 (6/25).
This wonderful quarter eagle is olive-gold with soft orange and
lilac accents that flash during rotation. Generally well-struck
with typical softness in the eagle's right leg, the other design
elements show sharp and softly lustrous details with minimal
abrasions.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25JE, PCGS# 7784, Greysheet# 8383)
Weight: 4.18 grams
