Description

1881-O Silver Dollar, MS66+
Unsurpassed Registry Coin

1881-O $1 MS66+ PCGS. CAC. Ex: JCS Collection. The 1881-O has long been a plentiful issue, even prior to the Treasury releases of the 1960s. However, the availability drops off sharply above MS65. Premium Gems are the finest pieces certified, and no Prooflike coins are reported so fine at PCGS. Moreover, only nine MS66 coins have received CAC endorsement, creating a perfect storm of Registry Set appeal when one of the coins with that green label also happens to have the PCGS Plus designation. That is the case with this coin -- it is without exception tied for the finest 1881-O dollar at PCGS. Luster is softly frosted and brilliant. No abrasions distract from the eye appeal, and even the strike is sharp. In fact, many collectors go years without seeing an O-mint Morgan dollar this sharp. Population: 51 in 66 (8 in 66+), 0 finer. CAC: 9 in 66, 0 finer (7/19).
