Washington Large Size Success Medal, AU58
Plain Edge, Baker-265, DeWitt GW-1792-1, Musante GW-41

Undated MEDAL Washington Success Medal, Large Size, Plain Edge, Baker-265, DeWitt GW-1792-1, W-10900, Musante GW-41, R.6, AU58 PCGS. This is a late die state of the First Obverse as identified in Neil Musante's two-volume work on Washington pieces. Baker asserted that these pieces were produced for Washington's second inauguration in 1793, and Musante reproduces an 1801 advertisement of Thomas Passmore that offers for sale "3000 medals [with a ] striking likeness of General Washington." This brass example blends golden-olive and steel toning. Impressively free from marks, and the strike is bold aside from diagnostic softness on the all-seeing eye. Listed on page 86 of the 2018 Guide Book.
