Description

Richly Toned 1893 Columbian Half, MS67

1893 50C Columbian MS67 PCGS. CAC. The 1893 Columbian half dollar, thanks to a mintage of more than 1.5 million pieces, is readily available in grades through MS65 and even for a price in MS66. (Due to a practice of putting unsold coins in circulation, it is also available in much lower grades as well.) At the Superb Gem level, though, the date emerges as a condition rarity; this is one of just nine examples of the 1893 issue certified by PCGS with no Plus-graded or numerically finer pieces in the Population Report (8/11). The coin itself is intensely lustrous and cartwheeled under a layer of rich patina, gold-gray and orange with aqua and cerulean border elements. Well-impressed devices are practically mark-free with subtly frosted texture.(Registry values: N4719)
