Description

1870-CC WB-101 Half Dollar, Fine 12
Elusive Key Carson City Issue

1870-CC 50C WB-101, Die Pair 2, R.5, Fine 12 PCGS. The first-year Carson City half dollar mintage of 54,617 pieces was promptly placed into circulation and few pieces remain from the rugged use in Old West commerce. Perhaps 200 pieces survive in all grades. This Fine example offers generally smooth, silver-gray surfaces with a few small scrapes and light lines but no heavy marks. Parts or all of the letters LITY of LIBERTY are visible, and the motto within the scroll is readable. Substantial wing definition remains for the assigned grade. Population: 11 in 12, 84 finer (5/16).

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 572190, Base PCGS# 6328)
