Description

1879 Half Dollar, Semiprooflike MS66
Colorful Toning

1879 50C Closed Bud, WB-102, MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1879 was the first low-mintage Philadelphia issue as a result of the Bland-Allison Act, which demanded the coinage of millions of silver dollars and nearly stopped half dollar and quarter production during the 1880s. The 1879 half dollar's mintage of 4,800 pieces is small, but enough high-grade examples survive that the date is collectible in many grades today. This CAC-endorsed Premium Gem displays a bold strike and modestly reflective fields. Sun-orange, lavender, ocean-blue, and mint-green hues adorn each side. Population: 49 in 66 (2 in 66+), 19 finer. CAC: 10 in 66, 14 finer (5/16).
