Description
1843 Two and a Half, MS64
Ex: Richmond Collection
Tied for Finest Known
1843 $2 1/2 MS64 NGC. Ex: Richmond Collection. The 1843 is
scarcer than its mintage suggests, and most certified examples are
in XF to AU grades. MS64 pieces are very rare, and none are
certified finer by either leading service. This is a lustrous
sun-gold representative with vibrant luster and uncommonly smooth
surfaces for the issue. The strike is fairly sharp, though
incomplete on the eagle's left (facing) leg. Census: 3 in 64, 0
finer (11/21).Ex: Richmond Collection (David Lawrence, 7/2004), lot 1104.
