Well Struck 1920-D Gem Fifty Cent

1920-D 50C MS65 PCGS. Numismatic writers present different opinions regarding strike on the 1920-D half dollar. Bruce Fox (1993), for example, writes that: "... low striking pressure and/or inadequate die spacing produced weaker than average strikes." Jeff Ambio, on the other hand, contends that the typical example is quite bold.
The strike is very well executed on the current Gem offering, including nearly complete definition on the branch hand. Soft frosted luster rolls gently beneath mostly light coppery-gold toning imbued with splashes of powder-blue, deepening slightly along the lower portion of the reverse. A few grade-consistent obverse marks do not significantly distract. Population: 41 in 65, 6 finer (11/08).
