Description
1858-O Quarter Dollar, MS64
Beautifully Toned Condition Rarity
1858-O 25C MS64 PCGS. Unlike its common Philadelphia
counterpart, the 1858-O Seated quarter is a rarity in Mint State,
regardless of grade. A pair of Gems at PCGS and two more at NGC are
the finest known. This near-Gem offers comparable visual appeal at
a more affordable price point, and its technical quality is almost
on par with its higher-graded counterparts. Sharp detail
characterizes the devices, and the frosty fields radiate luminous
luster. The interiors display warm golden and lavender hues, while
the borders have deeper ocean-blue and mint-green toning. The O-mint Seated Liberty quarter collection in Mint State presents a challenging but rewarding pursuit for ambitious collectors. The New Orleans Mint closed during the Civil War and did not resume coinage under federal control until 1879. Nonetheless, quarter dollars were not struck at that facility again until 1891. A complete date set requires only 20 coins. Population: 4 in 64, 2 finer (11/16).(Registry values: P5)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23TJ, PCGS# 5446, Greysheet# 5188)
Weight: 6.22 grams
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
