Description

1906-D Double Eagle, MS64
First Denver Twenty; Scarce This Fine

1906-D $20 MS64 PCGS. Rich orange-gold surfaces are highlighted with regions of blue-steel and white-gold with hints of red-gold. Design details are well-defined, save for the hair behind the headband. The Denver Mint opened its doors to production in 1906, and double eagles were first produced on April 4. These coins, however, were not saved by collectors at the time, and Mint State examples were scarce until international hoards were repatriated, making survivors scarce above the MS63 level.(Registry values: N2998)
