Description

Appealing 1856-S Three Dollar Gold, AU50

1856-S $3 AU50 PCGS. Bright and pleasing, with a nice strike and smooth surfaces. This example has lots of life and luster left in it, despite ten points of wear. Light gold surfaces darken a bit in the open fields and on the highest points. The San Francisco Mint struck three dollar pieces in only four years, if the unique 1870-S is excluded. (Registry values: N1793)
