Description

1883 Half Dollar, MS67
Later Low-Mintage Date

1883 50C WB-101 MS67 PCGS. During the 1880s, the various mints concentrated on silver dollar production, at the expense of quarters and half dollars. The thriving multiple-mint production of the half dollar during much of the 1870s gave way to token production at Philadelphia only. No single issue of that decade had a mintage of over 12,001 pieces, and in 1883, the Mother Mint coined just 8,000 business strikes. The marvelous piece offered here is among the finest survivors. The central devices are boldly struck, and the fields have shining, slightly watery luster. Arcs of peach patina appear at the upper obverse and left and right reverse margins, while the centers show little toning. Beautifully preserved with only the tiniest flaws visible, even under magnification. PCGS Population: 6 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer (12/25).
