Description

1855 Arrows Seated Half Dime, MS68
Sole Finest Example at Either Service
Unsurpassed Quality for the Type

1855 H10C Arrows MS68 NGC. CAC. The mint luster and eye appeal of this stunning half dime are nothing short of astonishing. The coin conveys the impression of full mint brilliance, yet it displays subtle patina that colors the obverse in sea-green and blue hues -- strongest in a narrow crescent across the date and the rock base. The reverse shows raspberry-red and blue accents marginally that dissipates toward the centers without disturbing the frosty luster.

Incomparable visual appeal aside, the central strike is remarkably full for the issue. As always, the coin shows slight peripheral weakness at the dentils and star centers. Microscopic roller marks are evident on even the highest-graded pieces. The striations help capture the light and contribute to the forceful mint luster, a sure sign of the freshness of the dies used to strike this unequalled Superb Gem. Certainly, this is a coin destined for the finest type or series collection, a final-year representative of the three-year Arrows design. NGC and PCGS have yet to see a finer example or one that is its equal. Housed in a former generation holder with CAC approval. Census: 1 in 68, 0 finer (6/16).(Registry values: N1)
