1854-D $5 Large D AU58 NGC. Variety 37-BB. Four die marriages are confirmed from the mintage of 56,413 pieces. The present radiant sun-gold near-Mint No Motto five lacks mentionable marks and displays many pockets of luster, which are especially extensive on the reverse. The strike is inconsistent, sharp in some areas and soft in others, customary for the remote Dahlonega facility. Census: 58 in 58 (1 in 58+, 1 in 58 ★ ), 48 finer (6/16).
