Description
1896-O Barber Quarter, MS66
Lovely Original Toning
1896-O 25C MS66 NGC. Somewhat overshadowed by its San
Francisco counterpart, the 1896-O is an underrated semikey in high
grades. Mint State representatives are scarce, regardless of grade,
and pieces grading finer than even the MS63 level are genuinely
rare. The Premium Gem example here offered is truly outstanding.
Glowing luster highlights the frosty, well-preserved surfaces. Warm
central hues of amber and gold yield to deeper aquamarine around
the peripheries, while close study of Liberty's cheek and other
problem areas fails to reveal any noteworthy abrasions. The reverse
is unusually well-struck, although the obverse shows trivial
weakness on several stars. Census: 5 in 66, 0 finer
(11/16).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23Y8, PCGS# 5614, Greysheet# 5421)
