Description

1776 Continental Dollar, XF40
Newman 2-C, Pewter
Correct CURRENCY Spelling

1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURRENCY, Pewter XF40 PCGS. CAC. Newman 2-C, W-8455, R.3. The five obverse dies identified for the Continental dollars including three different spellings of CURRENCY, including CURENCY and CURRENCEY. This example displays the correct spelling with perhaps 200 to 300 pieces known in all grades. The present specimen, housed in a PCGS green-label holder, offers pleasing pewter-gray surfaces with a few splashes of rich steel toning. The surfaces are quite nice, showing only a few trivial circulation marks on each side. An excellent example for the colonial specialist or type collector.
