Description

1869-S Half Eagle, AU58
Conditionally Scarce, Rare Any Finer

1869-S $5 AU58 NGC. Extremely rare in Mint State, the 1869-S five dollar seldom survives in About Uncirculated or finer condition. This near-Mint example retains substantial mint luster and exudes eye appeal. The strike is weak at the eagle's head and shield horizontals, but relatively sharp elsewhere for the issue. Abrasions are few and a scattering of ticklike marks does not diminish the visual impact. NGC reports just four Mint State coins, the finest MS62. Census: 11 in 58, 4 finer (6/16).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W8, PCGS# 8318, Greysheet# 9048)
