1905 Half Eagle, PR65 Ultra Cameo
Sole Ultra Cameo Certified
Outstanding Eye Appeal
1905 $5 PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC. The 1905 might be viewed as
one of the more plentiful proof Liberty half eagles and a suitable
type candidate. For type purposes, there are few better options,
but that does not mean the 1905 proof is common. Only 108 pieces
were struck, and many have not survived. PCGS estimates 75 to 100
pieces are extant, but the combined NGC and PCGS population figures
count only 81 coins, including likely resubmissions. Cameo examples
are scarce regardless of grade. In Ultra/Deep Cameo, only a single
coin is known: the present Gem (6/16).This glimmering, starkly contrasted beauty showcases liquidlike mirroring in the fields and satiny yellow-gold design elements. There are surprisingly no obvious hairlines at first glance, and only when rotated beneath a light do a few faint vertical lines appear in the left obverse field -- the only grade-limiting factor on this beautiful Gem proof.(Registry values: P1)
Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 98500, Greysheet# 9301)
