1862-S $20 AU58 NGC. Ex: S.S. Republic. Medium S. This is one of the 114 1862-S double eagles recovered from the wreckage of the S.S. Republic, which sank off the coast of Georgia in October 1865. It enjoys bright mint luster typical of Republic coins, with luminous wheat-gold color. Scattered abrasions and a brush of high-point friction are apparent.(Registry values: N1793)
