1888 $3 --Cleaned Obverse--ANACS. Unc. Details, Net AU58. Patient rotation beneath a loupe eventually reveals faint horizontal hairlines near the date and STATES. Lustrous and alertly struck with a blush of peach patina on the central reverse. UNITED is die doubled, as usual for business strikes of this ultra-low mintage date. Just 5,000 pieces were issued, although well-connected Philadelphia dealers appear to have set a number aside for posterity.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25NB, PCGS# 8010, Greysheet# 8659)
