1844-C $2 1/2 AU55 NGC. Variety 1. One die pair is known for the meager mintage of 11,622 pieces. Doug Winter estimates that only 150 to 175 coins survive in all grades. The present yellow-gold representative displays noticeable luster and is devoid of relevant abrasions. The strike is slightly soft at the centers, as usual. Under magnification, a fin rim is visible around much of each side. Census: 25 in 55, 28 finer (1/18).
