Description

1854-S Gold Dollar, MS62
Lustrous San Francisco Specimen

1854-S G$1 MS62 PCGS. Struck during the first year of operations, the gold dollar is a reasonably available representative of the new San Francisco Mint at MS62. A boldly defined example, both sides exhibit soft, frosty luster with hints of rose toning over the greenish-gold surfaces. Finer examples become elusive, with PCGS reporting only 22 such coins (5/25). Population: 19 in 62 (1 in 62+), 21 finer (4/25).
