1852 Assay Office Ten, Choice VF
K-12a, Late Die State

1852 $10 Assay Office Ten Dollar VF35 PCGS. K-12a, R.4. A midgrade example of this scarce Assay Office variety, struck shortly after John Little Moffat left the firm. The green-gold surfaces display a surprising amount of luster, and are minimally abraded despite slight reverse rim nicks at 4 and 5 o'clock. A late die state, listed by Kagin as the Faint Beads K-12a(2), with absent reverse dentils, a diagonal crack through the O in OFFICE, and a horizontal crack below the S in SAN. On the obverse, die cracks pass through MERI, UNIT, and TEN. Listed on page 399 of the 2019 Guide Book.
