Description

1904 Liberty Quarter Eagle, PR66
Sharp Cameo Example

1904 $2 1/2 JD-1, R.4, PR66 Cameo PCGS. The 170-piece proof mintage is comparable, but 1904 proofs are slightly scarcer than the other quarter eagles dated between 1900 to 1907. This is a radiant, well-contrasted lemon-gold example, decorated with a scattering of pale-orange speckles on each side. As expected, the strike is pinpoint sharp in keeping with the PR66 Cameo grade. Cameo proofs are great scarcities among the late-date (post-1900) proof issues since few examples are seen with unbroken mint frost on the devices. This is a later die state proof, with thinning seen at the bottom of the vertical shield stripes. Population: 10 in 66 (2 in 66+) Cameo, 4 finer (7/25).
