Description

1880 Ten Dollar Liberty, MS65+
The Sole Finest Certified, CAC Approved
A Great Rarity in This Condition

1880 $10 MS65+ PCGS. CAC. The 1880 Liberty eagle boasts a substantial mintage of more than 1.6 million coins, although Mint State examples are only plentiful as fine as MS62. Select examples are scarce, and this date is rare in MS64. The finest pieces known are a trio of Gems, including one at PCGS (Plus-graded) and two at NGC (3/18). Most references only briefly comment on the 1880's availability overall, and often its conditional rarity in Choice and Gem condition is overlooked. Only one MS65 coin has ever sold at auction -- a CAC-approved NGC coin in Stack's Bowers' August 2013 ANA sale, which realized nearly $20,000. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the MS65+ PCGS CAC coin has appeared at auction. Frosty rose-gold luster accents sharp devices, and only the most insignificant abrasions are visible beneath a light. The surfaces shimmer when rotated beneath a light. This is a landmark offering for the 1880 Liberty eagle, the inaugural appearance of the single finest-known example.(Registry values: N1)
