Description

1909-S Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, MS66
Only One Finer Certified

1909-S $20 MS66 PCGS. Nearly 2.8 million Saint-Gaudens double eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1909. Most of the coins were used in foreign exchange, with the majority going to European destinations. A considerable minority were sent to Central and South America, however. Many examples have been repatriated over the years and have found their way into major collections. The coins from European holdings usually show signs of rough storage and repeated counting, while those with Central and South American pedigrees are better-preserved.

This delightful Premium Gem exhibits virtually pristine orange-gold surfaces, with radiant mint luster on both sides. The design elements are sharply rendered and overall eye appeal is fantastic. Population: 15 in 66, 1 finer (6/16).
