Description

1866 Three Dollar, AU58
Semiprooflike and Lightly Abraded

1866 $3 AU58 NGC. With only 4,000 circulation strikes produced it is not surprising that most of the better-preserved 1866 threes show die striations and semiprooflike fields, as seen on this piece. Numerous small to medium-sized abrasions are scattered over each side, and there is little evidence of actual high-point friction. Light, even reddish-gold color is seen over both sides of this attractive near-Mint three. Census: 60 in 58, 41 finer (1/11).(Registry values: N1793)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25MM, PCGS# 7987, Greysheet# 8639)
