Description
1787 Miller 33.1-Z.19 Connecticut Copper, AU50
From the Taylor Collection
1787 Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, M. 33.1-Z.19, W-3330, R.5,
AU50 NGC. 131.1 grains. Obverse die 33.1 is known with reverse
dies Z.13 and Z.19. Reverse die Z.19 is known with obverse dies
33.1, 33.8, and 33.11. A strong Condition Census example that is
far finer then are found in most specialized collections. This
piece is probably the third finest known behind an MS62 PCGS
example and the heavily flawed primary Taylor coin. The
Hessberg-Twin Leaf coin grades XF45, and the Oechsner Collection
also had a Choice XF example. Ford had a VF, and the Perkins and
SLT coins graded Fine. A pleasing golden-brown example, this piece
displays blue-violet toning at the lower reverse. The centering is
good, with full legends and border details below the bold date.
Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.Ex: Frederick Taylor Collection (Bowers and Merena, 3/1987), lot 2498; Donald G. Partrick.
Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 685203, Base PCGS# 370)
