Description

1874-CC Double Eagle, AU58
Flashy Smooth Surfaces, Rare Any Finer

1874-CC $20 AU58 NGC. Variety 3-A. While this Type Two Carson City issue sports a comparatively large mintage of just over 115,000 pieces, Mint State survivors are surprisingly rare. Near-Mint examples are somewhat more available, although attractive, minimally marked representatives of the issue are always in strong demand.

This AU58 coin flashes exceptional mint luster with a bold strike and pleasing yellow-gold surfaces. The smooth fields and motifs show only a few trivial marks. While a trace of rub on Liberty's cheek prevents a full Mint State grade, it is worth noting NGC and PCGS combined have certified only 26 finer examples of the issue (6/15).
