Description

1920-S Quarter, MS63 Full Head
Challenging San Francisco Issue

1920-S 25C MS63 Full Head PCGS. The 1920-S had a moderate mintage of more than 6 million coins, but suffered from poor quality control at the San Francisco mint (a problem that would persist throughout the series), and most were struck with less than full detail. Full Head survivors are elusive in all grades, and genuinely rare at the Gem level. This piece exhibits unusually strong detail for the issue, with the inner shield lines showing the only significant softness. Liberty's head is well-defined, and the date numerals are bold. A touch of pale champagne toning graces each side, while a few lemon-gold accents are seen near the left-hand peripheries.(Registry values: N1793)
