Description

1879-CC GSA Dollar, MS65
Boldly Struck and Frosty

1879-CC $1 GSA MS65 CACG. Ex: GSA Treasure. This is a frosty, well-struck Gem example of the second scarcest Carson City Morgan dollar. The bold strike complements a largely clean cheek on Liberty, which earns the Gem designation, while most of each side is brilliant aside from a blush of russet at the second U in UNUM. In the left obverse field reside a few faint grazes that prevent an even finer grade. The coin is housed in its original GSA hard plastic holder, with a green CACG grading bank similar to those seen on NGC-certified GSA dollars. Includes a matching GSA certificate.

The GSA holdings of 1879-CC dollars amounted to only 4,123 pieces. This number was infinitesimal compared to the hundreds of thousands of coins represented for later Carson City dollars, and it represents a majority of the Uncirculated 1879-CC dollars known today, especially those in high grade.
