Description
1903 Double Eagle, MS66
Radiant Cartwheel Luster
1903 $20 MS66 NGC. The luster on this piece is deeply
potent, showing a frosty, vibrant cartwheel effect bathed in vivid
peach-gold and orange hues. The fields are largely pristine, and
only some faint grazes appear on Liberty's cheek and neck. Eye
appeal is radiant and exceptional. The 1903 Liberty double eagle is notably rare at the Superb Gem grade level. A handful of pieces in this grade are Plus designated, but none are numerically finer (7/25). Despite the rarity of these top-grade coins, the availability of the date in lower grades keeps price levels accessible for type collectors. Census: 21 in 66 (2 in 66+), 0 finer (7/25).(Registry values: N4719)
From The Mississippi Collection of Double Eagles, Part II.
