1846-D/D Quarter Eagle, XF45
Late Die State

1846-D/D $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Variety 7-L. This late die state shows only the faintest trace of the initial D mintmark above the 1 in the fraction. Cracks on the reverse, including one from the wing to ER in AMERICA, are further suggestive of a late state of the dies. Each side of this attractive, well-detailed XF representative enjoys minimally abraded orange-gold surfaces with bold rims. Dentils at the lower reverse are incomplete. In all, 19,303 1846-D quarter eagles were struck.(Registry values: P2)
