1807 Capped Bust Left Five, AU Details
Popular BD-8 Variety

1807 $5 Bust Left -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Breen-6453, BD-8, R.2. From a mintage of 51,605 pieces, the 1807 Capped Bust Left half eagle is known in two die varieties. The present coin represents the more available BD-8 variety, characterized by the position of the arrow feather pointing to the flag of the 5 in the denomination. John Dannreuther estimates a surviving population of 500-750 pieces in all grades. The present coin is a well-detailed piece, with little actual wear on the devices and a curious depression on Liberty's cheek. The orange-gold surfaces are attractive, but the mint luster is slightly dulled by a previous cleaning.

Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
