Description

1852-O $2 1/2 AU58+ NGC. CAC. A lovely Liberty quarter eagle from the New Orleans Mint, struck during the period of heavy gold deposits at that facility, mostly from California. For example, 98.1% of the total gold deposited at New Orleans in January 1852 was California gold, the balance consisting of mixed coins, bullion, and jewelry. This example has satiny yellow luster with pleasing design definition and only a few scattered surface marks. NGC has only certified 30 finer examples of this issue (2/11).(Registry values: P2)
