Description

1834 HM-3 Classic Half Eagle, MS61
Free of Distracting Marks

1834 $5 Plain 4, HM-3, R.2, MS61 PCGS. Beautiful, even light gold surfaces are free of deviations in hue as well as contact marks. Weakness is slight, and is confined to the uppermost obverse hair curls and reverse wing feathers. The 1834 No Motto half eagle is the first issue produced after the weight reduction spurred on by the Act of June 28, 1834. As a result of this, mass melting of U.S. gold coins ceased, and mintages skyrocketed, making the half eagle denomination collectible for the first time.
