1839-O No Drapery Dime, Toned MS67+
Sharply Struck Fortin-104a, Top 100 Variety

1839-O/O 10C No Drapery, Large O, F-104a, FS-501, High R.4, MS67+ NGC. A Fortin Top 100 Variety. The color plate coin for Fortin-104a, formerly in the Eugene H. Gardner Collection. Star 8 is noticeably repunched, and a spectacular, bisecting die crack runs rim-to-rim from the I in UNITED, through DIME, and through the C in AMERICA. The mintmark is boldly repunched below the primary Large O.

Orange-russet and violet patina visits the highly lustrous silver-gray surfaces of this magnificent Superb Gem. The devices are sharply struck, significantly better than typically seen on this issue, including Liberty's head, the shield, and the leaves, elements usually found weak. Impeccable preservation adds to the coin's wonderful eye appeal. Clearly in the Condition Census for the 1839-O, and perhaps unsurpassable in terms of visual impact. Census: 4 in 67 (2 in 67+), 2 finer (1/16).
Ex: Bowers and Merena (8/1999), lot 1314; Eugene H. Gardner Collection Part III (Heritage, 5/2015 as MS67 NGC without the Plus designation), lot 98221.
