Description

1871-CC Eagle, AU53
Elusive Old West Ten Dollar

1871-CC $10 AU53 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Two varieties produced the small 8,085-piece mintage. A double-dash die line between I and B of LIBERTY confirms the Winter 1-A variety, which also has the date positioned a bit farther-right than the Winter 2-A die pair. The second-year Carson City eagle is less famous than its '70-CC predecessor, but it is also rare. PCGS states "about 100 known" from the low production -- a common theme among early Carson City eagles. The usual tiny abrasions are seen on this orange-gold About Uncirculated example. The original sharp strike shows areas of minimal circulation wear, while tiny marks dot the surfaces. Traces of luster survive among the raised devices. PCGS Population: 4 in 53, 12 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N7079)
