1766 1/2P Pitt Halfpenny, Silvered AU50 PCGS. CAC. Betts-519, W-8350. William Pitt the Elder, also known as The Great Commoner, helped repeal the despised Stamp Act that taxed colony trade. Silvered examples of the Pitt halfpenny are scarcer than their copper counterparts. The present cream-gray piece is unabraded and shows only a trace of wear. An area of moderately dark toning is noted near FRIENDS. Listed on page 50 of the 2014 Guide Book. Population: 1 in 50, 1 finer (8/13).
