1859-C G$1 MS62 NGC. Variety 1. Last of the Charlotte gold dollar issues, though half eagles continued to be struck at the Southern mint until the Civil War closed the facility in 1861. This butter-gold representative is surprisingly free from marks and has a pleasing strike, though the O in GOLD retains the granular planchet texture since metal flowed to the portrait during coinage. Census: 10 in 62, 0 finer (7/13).(Registry values: N7079)
