Description

(1958) Jefferson Nickel, MS63
on a Cuban Centavo Planchet

(1958) 5C Jefferson Nickel -- Struck on a Cuban Centavo Planchet -- MS63 NGC. 2.6 gm. In 1958, the U.S. Mint struck copper-nickel centavos for Cuba (KM-30), a single-year type. The weight, diameter, and alloy confirms the planchet attribution. This undersized wrong planchet Jefferson nickel was struck aligned with the collar at 6 o'clock. A majority of the date is present, although the tops of the digits are off the flan. LIBERTY, WE TRUST, and the country name are mostly absent. The untoned surfaces are semiprooflike and unmarked.
