Description

1899-S Twenty Dollar, MS64+
Seldom Seen Any Finer, CAC

1899-S $20 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. The 1899-S Liberty double eagle has a production just over 2 million pieces and is plentiful up to the MS64 level. Plus-graded Choice examples such as this piece prove more elusive, and finer coins are rare. Sharply struck design elements on vibrant honey-gold surfaces are complemented with frosty, lilac-tinted luster yielding a lively cartwheel effect. A couple of nicks in front of Liberty's lips and light chatter on her cheek account for the grade. PCGS shows only six finer pieces (11/25).(Registry values: N2998)
