Description

1917 Cent, MS65 Red and Brown
FS-101, Doubled Die Obverse
Rare Guide Book Variety

1917 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS65 Red and Brown PCGS Secure. Doubling on the obverse legends increases from left to right, and is strongest on TRUST and the date. This Guide Book variety is much rarer than its more famous 1955 successor, and not enough Mint State examples are known to satisfy specialist demand. Cherrypickers' states that the FS-101 1917 "has finally become arguably the most sought after of all the early Lincoln cent varieties." This well-struck, lustrous, and virtually unabraded Gem is mostly orange-gold aside from blushes of cobalt-blue and cherry-red on the reverse. As of (7/18), PCGS has certified 6 as Red and Brown with only 7 pieces finer, all certified Red.
