Description

1799 B-7a, BB-156 Silver Dollar, Album-Toned AU55
Bowers
Encyclopedia Plate Coin

1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-7a, BB-156, R.4, AU55 PCGS. Ex: Miller. Bowers Die State III. An encircling network of fine die cracks begins at ERICA of AMERICA and runs throughout the legend and lower reverse devices. Faint die clashing is visible on the obverse with a lens. The late die state is scarce, yet the real attraction is the BB-156 variety, which is very scarce in high grades. This Choice About Uncirculated example ranks high in the Condition Census for the variety. Colorful gunmetal-blue and amber-gold toning at the margins surrounds silver centers. The coin is sharply struck on both sides with strong hair definition and feathering on the eagle's breast that is nearly complete, save for a touch of rub. Only tiny marks are distributed across the appealing surfaces.
