The thick, frosty luster often associated with the 1897 double eagle is immediately apparent on this piece, particularly in the softness of the cartwheel effect as it passes through the margins. Detail is sharp, and each side exhibits relatively few abrasions for the grade. NGC lists only 18 numerically finer representatives (5/24).(Registry values: N2998)
